San Diego Wave FC dominated in possession, shots and chances, but couldn’t find the back of the net. The Wavelost their fourth straight home match in a 0-1 loss against Racing Louisville in front of an announced crowd of 12,966.
“I think we win the game on all statistical parameters except the only one that really counts, the result,” Wave head coach Jonas Eidevall said. “But we do create enough chances today to score goals.”
San Diego Wave FC head coach Jonas Eidevall had an interesting answer to a question by Emor Villa about the team being winless through their last four home matches. It kind of encapsulates why sports are cool.

San Diego out-possessed 71% to 29% and outshot 22 to 12, but only put forth one great shot on target that ended up hitting the woodwork.
Racing Louisville comfortably sat back in a low block and ceded possession to the Wave for the majority of the match. They elected to create transitional moments and stretch the Wave defense to leave an opportunity open to score.
That moment came in the 59th minute after Ella Hase stole the ball from Hanna Lundkvist along the right wing. Her interception was passed back to her along the wing leaving her open to cross it to Emma Sears wide open inside the penalty area. Sears used her chest to control the pass then kicked well with her right foot into the far post to make it 1-0.
“It’s just a matter of being persistent,” Wave defender Kennedy Wesley said. “We’re creating good chances that we weren’t able to put in the back of the net today, but if we stick to our principles and execute it better than we did today, I think we have a really good chance of putting more goals away and putting more teams away.
“I don’t think it’s a time to panic, we just need to stick to what we know and keep being persistent and goals are eventually going to come.”
San Diego Wave play their next match on the road on Friday, August 29, against Seattle Reign FC. The Reign have dominated San Diego across their history with San Diego holding only a 1 W-2 D-10L record across all competitions.
